No Dowry Policy

Last updated on 15th April, 2025

FindHumSafar.com is a Muslim matrimony platform built on the foundations of Islamic values, mutual respect, and dignity in marriage. As such, we strongly condemn and prohibit the practice of dowry in all forms.

Our Firm Stand Against Dowry

We believe that dowry (jahez) the demand for money, gifts, or material possessions from the bride or her family as a condition of marriage is a sin in Islam and a social evil that goes against the very spirit of a blessed Nikah.

FindHumSafar.com does not support or encourage any user, family member, or affiliate to:

  • • Demand or offer dowry, directly or indirectly.
  • • Promote or glorify dowry in any user profile, communication, or proposal.
  • • Use our platform to negotiate marriage based on financial transactions.

Dowry Is Prohibited in Islam

Islam strictly forbids the practice of dowry. Marriage is a sacred covenant in Islam, and financial exploitation of the bride's family has no basis in Shari'ah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized kindness and ease in marriage and condemned burdening families with unnecessary financial expectations.

"The best of marriages are those that are easiest (and most affordable)."

— Sunan Ibn Majah 1847

  • • Dowry contradicts the Islamic teachings of mutual respect, simplicity, and justice.
  • • It is a cultural innovation (bid'ah), not an Islamic obligation.

What Is Mehr?

Islam prescribes Mehr (also called Mahr) as a mandatory gift from the groom to the bride, given as a sign of respect and commitment. It is the bride's full right and is not to be confused with dowry.

"And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease."

— Surah An-Nisa (4:4)

Mehr is a symbol of honor, not a burden, and its amount should be reasonable and agreed upon between the bride and groom.
